| The Hartford Whalers Booster Club Scholarship Fund
The Hartford Whalers Booster Club (HWBC) is a public, not-for-profit organization which was founded by fans of the Hartford Whalers Hockey Club when the World Hockey Association team moved to Hartford in 1975. The Hartford Whalers joined the National Hockey League in 1979 and played the next 17 NHL seasons in Hartford. During this time, the Hartford Whalers established the Gordie Howe/Hartford Whalers/Hartford Whalers Booster Club Scholarship which was awarded annually to a graduating Connecticut high school senior. Unfortunately, at the close of the 1997 season, the Hartford Whalers franchise moved from our state; yet, this did not mean the end of the HWBC. We are determined to keep the memory of the Hartford Whalers alive. Years of successful fundraising, has enabled the HWBC to establish the Hartford Whalers Booster Club Scholarship Fund. Our club hopes that the establishment of this scholarship fund not only helps to keep the memory of the Hartford Whalers alive, but also helps to fill one of the more noticeable voids left behind when the team left Connecticut. If you are a Connecticut, graduating, high-school senior going on to college, and have played high school hockey and intends to play collegiate hockey, you may apply for the Hartford Whalers Booster Club Scholarship.
